The awakening of Chinese aesthetic consciousness——Aesthetic Thoughts on “People”

[Summary] The appearance of the word “beauty” in the oracle bone inscription marks the emergence of Chinese aesthetic consciousness, and is connected with “goodness”. The subsequent Chinese literary works “Yi Shu” and “Shang Shu” did not have the word “beauty”. “People” appears in a large number of characters “beauty”, and are no longer related to “good”, but are consolidated by the higher value word “good”. This means that Chinese aesthetic consciousness is independent from moral consciousness, and marks the awakening of Chinese aesthetic consciousness. This is the true beginning of Chinese aesthetic thinking. All the words “beauty” in “Penyu” describe people, including the beauty of women and the beauty of men. It expresses that Chinese aesthetic thinking is not artistic aesthetics from the beginning, but “human aesthetics.” This means that the awakening of Chinese aesthetic consciousness is the awakening of human beings, and its connotation is the restraint of human emotions, especially the unrestrained expression of love between men and women. Therefore, all the word “beauty” in “People” appears in “National Style”, which means that the Chinese aesthetic consciousness first appears among the common people, that is, it is not the ethical and political thought explained by later Confucianism. Does there be any aesthetic thoughts in the earliest collection of Chinese poems? Some scholars believe that “People does not have theoretical aesthetic thinking, but as a human being’s aesthetic product of real aesthetics, it contains very rich understanding and aesthetic thinking.” [1] Here, it is correct to divide “esthetics” and “appreciation [of the beauty], but it says that “People” only has “aesthetics” but does not have “aesthetics”. What is the “thinking” that depends on “thinking”. In fact, thinking may not necessarily have a systematic “theoretical form”; otherwise, even Zhou Gong and Confucius did not think. This article will analyze and prove that “Pen Shu” not only has a good attitude, but also has aesthetic thoughts.

 

However, the first chapter of the famous book “The History of Chinese Aesthetics” by Teacher Ye Lang is “Laozi’s Aesthetics” and the second chapter is “Confucius’ Aesthetics”, which is not listed in the earlier “People” of the era. This is because, in his opinion, the “development period of Chinese classical aesthetics” began at the end of the age, “this development is the development of philosophy”, “Aestheticists of this period, such as Laozi, Confucius, the author of “Yi Ji”, Zhuangzi, Xunzi, etc., are all major philosophers”, “their aesthetics are theirs.A part of the Philosophical System.” [2] According to this, since “People” is not a philosophical work, it is certainly not as aesthetic work. But the question is: What is “philosophy”? If philosophy and aesthetics mean reflection, then “People” also has reflection, including reflection on aesthetics. Aesthetics is not reflection on aesthetics, but reflection on aesthetics, that is, it clearly means When you understand “what is beautiful”, you will clearly give the evaluation of “beauty”. The relationship is: aesthetics – reflection → aesthetics – praise → things. From this we can see that the emergence of the word “beauty” in the Han Dynasty marks the birth of Chinese aesthetic consciousness, which can be traced back to oracle bone script. About the aesthetic thinking of “People”, two areas should be paid attention to:

 

First It is the division between “aesthetics” and “artistic aesthetics”. This is corresponding to the division between “appreciation” and “artistic aesthetics”. Appreciation of beauty does not mean artistic aesthetics, and aesthetics does not mean artistic aesthetics; aesthetics is a reflection on aesthetics, and artistic aesthetics is a reflection on artistic aesthetics. Although “People” is regarded as a linguistic art work tomorrow, its appreciative and aesthetic thinking does not mean artistic evaluation Beauty and artistic aesthetics, because the important application of the word “beauty” in “Pen Shu” is not art, but things that are long and short, especially people themselves. From this, it can be said that the beginning of Chinese aesthetic thinking is not artistic aesthetics.

 

The second is the division between “Pen Shu”‘s own aesthetic thinking and the aesthetic thinking of the ancients. (1) In the existing “Pen Shu” During the discussion, the word “aesthetics” often refers to its own aesthetic thoughts, but the aesthetic thoughts of the ancients: such as “the aesthetic meaning of “aesthetics”” [6], “the aesthetic value of “aesthetics”” [7], “the aesthetic meaning of “aesthetics”” [8], “the aesthetic notes of “aesthetics”” [9], etc., are all discussed by the ancients with the perspectives of a certain modern aesthetic.The aesthetics of Poetry” means “an analysis of the existing beauty of the guest of Poetry” from the perspective of aesthetics” [10]. But the actual statements of this type of article often mix the above-mentioned segments.
